My first race – not for living!

I am excited to tell you all about my first race of 2016 is on this coming Sunday 15th May 2016.  The event is called “The Immortal”.  This is to be held at Stour Head national Park, a beautiful setting. www.nationaltrust.org.uk/stourhead

The race is a standard distance event which basically means the is a swim of 1.2 miles (or 1900 meters if you prefer) in an open water lake.  This is
followed by a two lap course on the bike in the countryside of 56 miles.  Finally the last discipline is run of 13.1 miles  over a three loop course in the grounds of the National Park.  This is great because it will give me chance to pass my family a few time and receive their positive cheering to get me through it.

I am hoping the weather will be kind and not too hot or too wet for the bike section especially.

I have no real predictions of where I will finish in the race but I am quietly confident of a good performance as I have been expertly looked after and coached for some time now by a terrific GB age group athlete called Philip Saunders of Fin Fitness www.finfitness.co.uk/#/about-me/4552465625

I also have just returned from a weeks intensive training with a few pals in France at a place called Les Stables www.les-stables.com

If anyone is looking to get fitter I can highly recommend this sport. It does not matter what level of fitness you start at, the people to take part in this sport are so supportive from the elites to the novices.  There are so many different events and distances to have a go at all around the UK and indeed the world.  Be careful however it is extremely

addictive once you get going.JB France Swim

My wife and fellow director here has also taken up this sport in a big way and is also training hard for her first race of the year on the 22nd May 2016 in Wadebridge in the Cornwall series event.  Angela’s race is a sprint distance consisting of 400 meter pool swim, 15 miles on the bike and a 5K run. www.tempusleisure.org.uk/sportsevents/triathlon/wadebridge-triathlon

Anyway, this is billed as my B race and my A race is in July where I will be competing in the Full Ironman UK event in Bolton where the distances double.  This event I am raising monies for a charity called Bowel Cancer West. Here is my just giving page if you would like to make a donation. www.justgiving.com/fundraising/John-Best10

Fingers crossed I will have a successful weekend of racing and I shall update you on the results I am sure.  Thanks to everyone who has helped me get this far in being ready in particular my family and staff for putting up with my training programme.

I attach a youtube video to give you a flavour of the weekends event. www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jzQGIYX1PE

All the best
